Within the International Research Training Group,

One (1) PhD position (m/f)

at Chemnitz University of Technology

are available from 1 March 2010 with respect to the subproject

G3 - Simulation of Nanoscaled Interconnect Systems.

Details of the PhD position and possible topics:

  • Quantum chemical simulation and modeling of atomic layer deposition (ALD) processses
  • Quantum physical simulation of electronic transport in ALD coated interconnect nanostructures (copper, carbon nanotubes)

Requirements and Conditions:

We welcome applications of highly qualified graduates with a Diploma, a Master's degree or comparable qualification in Physics or Electrical Engineering. A strong interest for multidisciplinary research is required. Good knowledge of the English language, both spoken and written, is essential. Due to the international character of the project, international students are especially encouraged to apply.

PhD candidates will receive a grant of EUR 1340 per month plus a monthly allowance for consumables, books etc. of EUR 103, as well as an allowance depending on their family status. The duration of the PhD grants is 2 years, and can be extended to a maximum period of 3 years. Within this time, the PhD thesis must be completed.

Successful participation in the study and student exchange programs of the IRTG is required. PhD candidates will usually be employed for a probation period of 6 months.

After receipt and evaluation of the documents, applicants will be notified wether they are considered for an interview and presentation of their recent scientific work. Assignment of grants to PhD candidates will be based on a transparent and performance-oriented procedure. Among others, selection criteria for applicants are rapidly completed studies with a qualified degree and above-average results as well as an outstanding qualification for contributing to the International Research Training Group. It is expected that candidates have shown superior motivation and scientific interest already during their present career. They should also have gained first experience in independent scientific work. Furthermore, the PhD studies should reasonably fit into the professional biography and the future career planning of the candidates.
