The research field of sustainability is divided into two areas.

On the one hand, it acts as a supporter for other research fields or scientists when they address sustainability-related topics. This can mean evaluating research questions from a sustainability perspective, comparing them with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals or Chemnitz University of Technology's sustainability strategy, for example. The research field of sustainability acts as link to other departments at Chemnitz University of Technology that deal with sustainability, circularity and life-cycle assessment.

The second area of the sustainability research field deals with the recycling of polymers in atmospheric pressure plasmas. The reactor designed specifically for this application is a combination of a typical coaxial barrier discharge and a fluidized bed reactor.

Research Topics

  • Sustainability assessment of microelectronics
  • Plasmalysis of Polymers
